I’m studying HAI (human-agent interaction) and IIS (intelligent interactive systems) by applying AI and HCI techniques like machine learning, data mining, and interaction design. Also I organize my HAI/IIS laboratory consisting of doctoral candidates in a department of informatics in Sokendai (Graduate University of Advanced Studies) and other universities, visiting researchers.
- HAI (human-agent interaction) is a novel research field in which we study various interaction design between a human and a virtual agent, a human and a physical robot, and a human and a human through mediation agents. The final target is to develop a fundamental and common interaction design policy which can be applied to the three different interactions. AI, soft computing, machine learning, cognitive science, robotics, are closely related to HAI. The concrete research target is to investigate relationships between various properties of virtual agents and a human by conducting experiments with participants. - IIS (Intelligent Interactive Systems) is also a novel research field in which we study how to build intelligent interactive systems that can estimate a user’s internal states including his/her degree of understanding a task, systems’ strategies, and also the user easily can understand how the systems can learn and adapt to them. Only with such intelligent interactive systems, a human user is able to do creative cooperation tasks with machines like computers. Particularly, interactive machine learning, very efficient learning with valid accuracy, interaction design for retrieve human ability including human active learning.
